Trekking Lamayuru to Shang Sumdo (  10 night 11 days)

Introduction

The trek from Lamayuru to chilling will be one of the best trek which comes with Beautiful monastery such as ( Likir, Alchi and Lamayuru monastery ).

Hot lunch will be provided in The Alchi ( Zemskang garden Restaurent )

The trek also comes beautiful landscape, beautiful villages such as ( Lamayuru , Wanla, Hinju, Sumdo, Markha  and also Nimaling camp from where you can see some beautiful mountain climbing peaks such as Kangyatse and dzo Dzongo).

Schedule Details

Day 1

Drive from Leh to Lamayuru

Duration:- 5 to 6 Hour

Distance:- 140km

After Breakfast you will start the drive from Leh to Likir monastery, and than visit Alchi monastery and have hot lunch at Alchi . After Lunch you will start the Drive from Alchi monastery to lamayuru monastery.

After visiting Lamayuru monastery fixed  camp will be already there and you can have some tea and snacks. Relax for a while and than stay and relax in Dinnig tea,

Dinner will be served early, so that you can relax and get ready for the first easy hike for tomorrow.

Overnight stay in Camp.

Day 2

Trek from Lamayuru to Wanla (Tarchit)

Duration:- 4 to 5 Hour

Distance:- 11 to 13km

Pass of the day:- Prikiting-la ( 3720mtr)

Start you trek after the breakfast via Pirkiting La from where you can have spectacular view of Zangskar Mountains and Kongske-La. The steep descends leads you to first camp at Wanla a pretty village via Shellakung. Over night in Tarchit Camp. This will be the only camp where you can have a attached bath room near the camp, where you have a proper shower.

Day 3

Tarchit to Hinju village

Distance:- 15 to16km

Duration:- 4 to 5 hour

Leave Wanla for Hinju after the breakfast the nice views of mountains and narrow gorges. The Hinju village comes with the prayer flags in the starting of village.

Overnight in Camp

Day 4

Hinju to Sumda Chenmo

Duration:- 5-6 hours.

Distance:- 18 to 20km

Pass of the Day:- Kongski-la (4900mtr) 

Procced towards Sumda Chenmo via Konski La 4900 mtrs. From where you can have a view of back route from Pirkiti La. The Valley across the Konski-La has a few huts of shepherds from Hinju where they make butter and cheese

Overnight stay in Camp.

Day 5

Sumda Chenmo to DunDunchan La Base

Duration:- 5-6 hours.

Distance:- 16km(approx.)

The trail leads to Dundunchan-la Base along with Sumda chu Arrive base of the pass after a good walk for 4-5 hours. Overnight in Camp.

Day 6

DunDunchan-La Base to Chilling .

Duration:- 5-6 hours

Distance:- 18km

Pass of the Day:- Dundunchan-la (4700mtr)

 

Have a fantastic view from Dundunchan-La (4700 mtrs) and trail Leads to Chilling village where the Zangskar River follows towards Nimo village. The chilling village is famous for metal works in Ladakh. Initially the people of Chilling were brought to Ladakh from Nepal Deldan Namgyal to built the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha at Shey. After completion of statue they rewarded with Land at chilling and settled down here by king.

Over night in Camp.

Day 7

Chilling to Skiu

Duration:-4 to 5 Hour

Distance:- 10 to 14 km

Here you need to cross Zangskar River with a cable car with your Luggage as pony cannot cross with things. We have to change the ponies the new pony man will be waiting for us. Reach Skiu via Kaya Overnight in Camp.

 

Day 8

Skiu to Markha

Duration:- 7-8 Hour

Distance:- 18 to 20km

Sku is comparatively being on a lower altitude it is bit hot in Summer. Walk along the Markha River and then throne scrub. On The way passing through, you can have a wonderful view of back down valley. Markha makes beautiful by Kang- Yatse peak (6400 mtrs.) which over shadows the valley.

Overnight in Camp.

Day 9

Markha to Thachugtse

Duration:- 5 to 6 Hour

Distance:-13 to 14km

The trail splits as soon as you leave the village walk thorough a steep cliff. After double-crossing the river you can view a Gonpa up to the left. Arrive Thachungtse after a lovely walk through Umlung.

Overnight in Camp.

Day 10

Thachuntse to Nimaling

Duration:- 4 to 5 Hour

Distance:- 13km

You can have beautiful views of Kangyatse after passing through several Mani walls. Arrive Nimaling after descends which is a pastureland for Markha villagers.

Overnight in Camp..

 

Day 11

Nimaling to Chokdo

Duration:- 6 to 7 Hour

Distance:- 18km

Pass of the Day:- Kongmaru-la ( 5220mtr)

 

Walk towards Shang Sumdo via Kongmaru La pass (5200mtr), This the highest pass in this trek and good walk for around 7 hours. Arrive Chokdo by 2.PM

Drive back to Leh.

THINGS to CARRY

This is not a definitive list but we suggest that all students carry at least these items while traveling to Ladakh.

- Sunblock or sunscreen with SPF 50+*

- 2 t-shirts (preferably fast drying) *

- 1 thin fleece *

- 1 long sleeved t- shirt *

- 1 fleece jacket *

- 1 light water proof / windproof jacket

- 1 pair of long trousers *

- 1 pair sturdy trainers *

- 1 pair of flip – flops *

- Several pairs of thin and thick socks *

- Warm cap, scarf and gloves

- First aid kit ( medicines are not easy to get on the trail )

- Water bottle *

- Torch light / head lamp with spare batteries

- Camera with extra battery

- Minimal wash kit including biodegradable soap,

tooth-brush and toothpaste *

- Bag for putting garbage *

- Sunglasses and sun-hat

- Sanitary item for women *

- Lip balm and small water bottle *

- A down jacket and wind proof trousers

- A book to read is not a bad idea *

Flight tickets (but we can help you with booking if requested beforehand), travel insurance, entrance fee in some places where applicable e.g. in some monasteries, medical expenses if any encountered on the trip 

What happens if we fall sick or get injured?

The group leaders and guides are trained in basic first aid and emergency healthcare providence. In cases of higher emergency, we facilitate swift and immediate response to transfer the person to the nearest hospital/healthcare provider. 

What is a typical travel day like with Edventure Ladakh?

You could be engaged with anything from working on the farms to taking the cows for grazing on the mountains on your trip. Since learning by immersion is an important part of our trips, you could even be attending a kayaking workshop with our expert facilitators. 

On some days, you can expect training in local handicrafts or intensive courses in language or philosophy. All experiences are designed keeping in mind our travel audience and we believe in allowing them to immerse and learn from their environment.
