Located on the high Tibetan plateau, the Changthang region is characterised by its vast highlands and giant lakes. It’s also home to the exquisite Tsomoriri lake (designated Ramsar site), one of the highest lakes in the world.

The unique geography of Changthang allows for the visit of many migratory birds in the spring and summer season. The Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary is home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna. Approximately 44 different types of water birds and seasonal species of migratory birds can be found here.

One can expect to see Indian Golden Oriole, Long-tailed Shrike, Blue Whistling Thrush, Common Cuckoo, Common Rosefinch, Hill Pigeon etc. Afternoon visit to Hemis area after Stok Palace for Tibetan Snowfinch, Eurasian Crag Martin, Northern House Martin, Bearded Vulture, White Wagtail, Red-fronted Serin, Plain Mountain Finch amongst other species.

Day 1

Delhi – Leh
Today at the airport our representative will receive you at the airport and then you will be transferred to the hotel and full day relax and get acclimatize to the high altitude as you are coming from the low altitude.

Overnight in hotel.

Day 2

Leh
Today you can go for a short walk to market and leh palace, take a easy day, as suggested by the administration we have to take complete 2 day rest and acclimatize, so that we will enjoy the rest of the trip properly.

Day 3

Leh and around
Today morning we will go to Shey Marshes and then to  Thiksey. One can expect to see red crested Pochard , booted eagle, Indian Golden Oriole, Long-tailed Shrike, Blue Whistling Thrush, Common Cuckoo, Common Rosefinch, Hill Pigeon etc. Afternoon visit to Hemis area after Stok Palace for Tibetan Snowfinch, Eurasian Crag Martin, Northern House Martin, Bearded Vulture, White Wagtail, Red-fronted Serin, Plain Mountain Finch, Blue Sheep etc.

Day 4

Leh To Anlay
Today you will start early because it’s a 6 hour drive and going to be one of the most beautiful drive ever, on the way you will see lots of wild animals

Golden Eagle, Himalayan Vulture, Tibetan Snowfinch, Chukar Partridge, Red-fronted Serin, Sulphur-bellied Warbler, White-throated Dipper  wild ass, Himalayan red fox etc.

Day 5-6

Anlay wetland (Full Day)
Full day birding around Anlay. One can see Brown & Robin Accentors, Tickell’s Leaf Warbler, Streaked Rosefinch, Tibetan Snowfinch, Chukar Partridge, Common & Salim Ali’s Swifts, Red-billed Chough, Himalayan Snowcock, Red-fronted Serin, Twite etc. One can also expect to see Blue Sheep, Red Fox and the elusive Snow Leopard.

Day 7

Anlay to Nyoma

Travel to Nyoma and in the evening vist the monastery and walk to the phu nyoma and see the blue sheep and marmot.

A evening walk by the stream will be very memorable.

Day 8

Nyoma  – Tsomoriri
We will spend the day travelling and birding to tsomoriri, One can expect to see  Black neck Crane Golden Eagle, Common Merganser, Ibisbill, Horned Lark etc. Check the stream at Puga emerging out of sulphur spring for Black-necked Crane, Brown-headed Gull, Ruddy Shelduck etc.

Overnight: wodden cottage.

Day 9

Tso Moriri and Lake Tadsang Karu to tsokar
Morning excursion to the lakes for Ruddy Shelduck, Bar-headed Goose, Ruff, Lesser Sand Plover, White-winged Tern, Long-legged Buzzard etc. Black-necked Crane is big a possibility too. Spend the evening near the camp checking the stream, rock faces and bushes for Eurasian Eagle-Owl, White-winged Redstart, Robin Accentor, Asian House Martin, White-throated Dipper, Bearded Vulture etc.

Day 10

Tso Kar – Pabuk tso
Travel to the lake in the morning across  One can see large flocks of Brandt’s Mountain Finch. As you enter the lake area, you may see Black-necked Crane, Common Redshank, lots of other waders and waterfowl. Tibetan Wild Ass, Marmot, and Stoliczka’s Mountain Vole are mammal species that are seen commonly. Explore the area for Little Owl, Tibetan Sandgrouse, Plain-backed Snowfinch etc. Horned Lark, Hume’s Short-toed Lark and Tibetan Snowfinch are some of the common birds here. Afternoon visit to fresh water lake for Pied Avocet, breeding colony of Great Crested Grebe, Ruddy Shelduck etc. Black-necked Crane is a possibility too. Overnight stay in fully serviced tented camp.

Day 11

Tso Kar – Leh
After morning birding at Tso Kar, travel to Leh via Tanglang Pass stopping en route for birding. Arrive Leh in the afternoon. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight stay in Hotel Snow View or similar.

Day 12

Leh – Delhi
Fly back to your own destination  in the morning.

THINGS to CARRY

This is not a definitive list but we suggest that all students carry at least these items while traveling to Ladakh.

What is included in the cost of the program?

Accomodation on MAP basis which includes breakfast, dinner and sleeping arrangements, permit fee to the governed areas, transportation costs while on the trip, guide and porters fee, facilitators fee, food while traveling, 

What is not included in the cost of the program?

Flight tickets (but we can help you with booking if requested beforehand), travel insurance, entrance fee in some places where applicable e.g. in some monasteries, medical expenses if any encountered on the trip 

What happens if we fall sick or get injured?

The group leaders and guides are trained in basic first aid and emergency healthcare providence. In cases of higher emergency, we facilitate swift and immediate response to transfer the person to the nearest hospital/healthcare provider. 

What is a typical travel day like with Edventure Ladakh?

You could be engaged with anything from working on the farms to taking the cows for grazing on the mountains on your trip. Since learning by immersion is an important part of our trips, you could even be attending a kayaking workshop with our expert facilitators. 

On some days, you can expect training in local handicrafts or intensive courses in language or philosophy. All experiences are designed keeping in mind our travel audience and we believe in allowing them to immerse and learn from their environment.
